Broccoli Benefits for Breast Cancer Treatment

A compound derived from broccoli may help prevent or treat breast cancer, with sasran stem cells or cancer stem cells (stem cells), according to researchers at the University of Michigan Cancer Center, USA.

The study tested sulforaphane, a compound in broccoli and broccoli sprouts. The researchers found sulforaphane can kill the cancer stem cells and prevent the growth of new tumors.

"Previously, sulforaphane has been investigated for its effects against cancer, but this study suggests that these compounds are useful in inhibiting breast cancer stem cells," said the authors of this study, Duxin Sun, Ph.D., professor of pharmaceutical sciences at the School of Pharmacy, University of Michigan. The results of this study published in Clinical Cancer Research issue May 1.

Chemotherapy does not currently work against cancer stem cells, so cancer continues to grow and spread. Researchers believe that eliminating the cancer stem cells is the key to controlling cancer.

In this study, researchers used mice as experimental models. Mice with breast cancer were then injected with sulforaphane extracted from broccoli. The researchers then used several methods to assess the amount of cancer stem cells in tumors. After treatment with sulforaphane, a sharp decline in the number of cancer stem cells, with little effect on normal cells. Furthermore, cancer cells from mice treated with sulforaphane was not able to produce new tumors. The researchers then tested sulforaphane on human breast cancer, and researchers found a similar reduction in cancer stem cells.

"This study suggests a potential new treatment that can be combined with other compounds to kill breast cancer stem cells," says researcher Max S. Wicha, director of the UM Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Causes of Uterus Cancer in Women

Cancer of the womb (uterus) is one type of cancer is frightening for a woman. Cancer is considered to be the largest cause of death of women in the world. There are several causes of these cancers, among others, sex under the age of 17 years.

Cervical cancer is a disease that affects many women. Why is that? Because only women who have a uterus, while men do not. The disease is lethal and appear as epithelial cells in the lining of the uterus develops abnormally. As with other cancers, the cause of cervical cancer even this is not certain. Several studies later mentions that cancer is caused by a virus Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which appears, in part because the behavior often have multiple sex partners.

The virus lives in moist areas, precisely in vaginal fluid pathway to the patient discharge (leukore). If whiteness is not immediately improve, the virus can come up with uterine cancer. This condition usually characterized by the number of whitish fluid that accompanied the odor and bleeding out of the vagina. But there are times when the cancer appears it does not give symptoms of pain like that.

Sexual intercourse under the age of 17 can also stimulate the growth of cancer cells. Why? Because the age range of 12 to 17 years, changes in cervical cells are very active. When cells are actively dividing (metaplasi), ideally not occur any contact or stimulation from the outside, including the injus (entry of) foreign bodies in the female body. The presence of foreign objects, including the male genitalia and sperm cells, would lead to the abnormal cell growth. Especially if it comes to injuries that resulted in infection in utero.

Abnormal cells in the cervix (cervix uteri) was able to attack the female womb, originated from the cervix, and the risk of spread to the vagina to get out. Itupun abnormal cells can spread to other organs in the body, such as the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, kidney, lung, liver, bone to brain. If it has reached an advanced stage and spread to other organs, cervical cancer can cause death.

This cancer can also be caused by nicotine in the blood. Why? Because cigarette smoke that enters the body will soon penetrate into the blood spreading throughout the body. Substance nicotine in the blood will stop in all parts of the body, including the cervix and the lining of the cervix that are hypersensitive to nicotine. Substance nicotine will spur the growth of abnormal cells that later became prickly appearance of cervical cancer cells.

Later also the issue of developing that cancer is caused by intercourse when a woman is menstruating. According to experts, this cancer has nothing to do with sex is done when a woman is menstruating. This cancer is more caused by the HPV virus, whereas that intercourse during menstruation a woman is simply a relationship that is not hygienic.
